American Heritage Dictionary defines numismatics as "the study or collection of money, coins, and often medals." According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word is from the post-classical Latin word numisma, which is itself a variation of the classical Latin word nomisma from ancient Greek nomisma. Numisma, the post-classical Latin word, is influenced by nummus or "coin" (OED.com). I chose numismatics because of the word's relationship with two words previously seen in the course: obverse and reverse.
