Tiramisu
The American Heritage College Dictionary defines tiramisu as "a dessert cake infused with a liquid such as coffee or rum and layered with a rich cheese filling." Since I enjoyed this delectable treat yesterday evening, I thought I'd explore its etymology. The dessert's name comes from an Italian phrase--tira mi sĂș--which means "pick me up" (American Heritage College Dictionary). Isn't that just perfect? This sweet, moist cake is named tiramisu because of the little lift it gives you when you eat it. Given how fast the deadline for my thesis is approaching, I needed a little pick-me-up! Don't you?
